CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CONFERENCE
Everyday Life in Short Folklore Forms
5–7 May 2026, ZRC SAZU, Ljubljana
We kindly invite you to our conference on short folklore forms and the reflection of everyday life within them.
Short folklore forms are genres characterised as the briefest in folklore. We consider paremiological and phraseological forms, as well as greetings and farewells, riddles, swearing, oaths, incantations, prayers, and the opening and closing forms in narratives, among others. These forms – whether used in everyday language or as part of ritual activity – convey metaphorical and stereotypical images of everyday life and observation. In folklore, proverbs convey experiences, riddles express observations, and greetings articulate wishes. Short folklore forms, as part of folklore in general, narrate social stereotypes and values.
We welcome contributions that explore short folklore forms as diachronic reflections of social concepts embedded in everyday discourse and as synchronously functioning expressions of social interaction. We are especially interested in analyses that illuminate how these forms articulate experiences of work, exchange, consumption, and value, thus capturing the economy as a dominant aspect of daily life and revealing the interplay between linguistic creativity, social values, and cultural continuity.
Conference languages are Slovenian and English. The conference fee is 50 euros.
The deadline for the submission of applications is 20 December 2025 on the website: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf5lbFq5KUQ-
